How to Attract New Customers to Your Pet Care Business

You run a pet business because you love being around pets. But it is very important to please the customers as well if you want to keep your business alive even grow since they are the ones who pay for the service. Thus, in addition to giving great service to the pets, you need to do things to let your customers know that you care about them as well. So how can you achieve both at the same time?

Customers come to your business to meet specific wants and needs. If they are unhappy about your service, they’ll never come back. To improve your customer service, first you have to attract customers to your business. Customers can only receive service from your business if they do business with you. So how can you get them to bring their pets to your business? Make sure they have a good impression of your business. Walt Disney said it best, “Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.”

• Have a smart looking and well-run website, so when customers look for a pet care business, they will find and be impressed by yours.

• Improve both inside and outside appearance, as well as the front entrance of your business, so customers and their beloved pets will be welcomed by a safe, happy, and clean place.

• Check to see that directions to your business, whether from the website, flyers, or advertising, are correct and clear. No one wants to drive around trying to find a business with directions that are impossible to follow.

• When your customers get to your business, let your friendly staff greets them and care for their pets.

You probably have hired staffs who love pets. They treat animals with care and attention. But they may not know how to treat the customers. Help your staff learn what kind of customer service they can offer. But remember, treat your staff respectfully, talk to them kindly, listen to their opinions and suggestions, and always let them know they are doing a good job. Treating your staff well and they’ll find it easier to treat customers well.

Another way to improve customer service is to train your staff on how to talk with customers about the services your business provides, how their pet fared, and how they can get additional services.

Customers want to feel they are getting top quality service. You can enhance that impression by learning how to speak to your customers. Use language that is clear and respectful. Really listen to the questions they ask, and what their concerns are. Answer their questions as thoroughly as possible. Show them you know about how to care for pets, you understand your business well, and anticipate their concerns.
